It’s not all about financial returns. We care about our impact on society and the environment.
At Hill & Smith Infrastructure, we consider people, the planet and our purpose every step of the way. For us, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is just as important as meeting sales targets. We value our hardworking teams, providing outstanding health, safety and wellbeing solutions, and also go to great lengths to support local communities. And we take full responsibility for our environmental impact – proving our commitment with a pledge to achieving net zero across our operations by 2040.
Designed to ‘achieve a better and more sustainable future for all’, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were set as part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They aim to reduce climate change and poverty, and improve education, health and economic growth worldwide.
Along with our parent company Hill & Smith PLC, we set our Sustainability Goals around three key areas and proactively work towards:
Protecting the world
Serving and enhancing lives
Sustainable governance
We’re committed to making a meaningful impact through our ESG initiatives. From charitable events and school visits to apprenticeship, we actively support our communities, create opportunity for growth and uphold responsible governance for positive change.
Achieving CSR accreditation is a visible testimony to our excellence in CSR. The accreditation shows we have integrated CSR initiatives throughout our business operations and are engaged in business practices that directly affect our local community and environment.
Dawn Nadin, Sales Co Ordinator and our Head of ESG, Kathryn Cooper, visited Year 5 & 6 primary school children in Norfolk to teach them about roles in Engineering. Some of the highlights were activities which included ‘Guess My Job’ and putting the children into groups to build the best marble run. The innovations witnessed that day were inspiring for all.
Kathryn Cooper, our Head of ESG, was asked to speak at the ICC, Birmingham at the SMP Alliance 7OGETHER event. She spoke about a co-led biodiversity project “Do we thrive where we drive?” that invites everyone to record information about wildlife living near our road networks to create more research-grade, publicly available data for the industry.
Let’s work together to protect lives and shape the future of road, place and people safety
