Hill & Smith Barriers have a variety of tested and approved transitions that are designed to connect two barrier types together without compromising the performance of the systems installed. Our transitions should give you confidence when installing barriers that move between containment classes and working widths. All our transitions are developed by Hill & Smith Infrastructure and are independently tested by a third party, to the British Standard, BSI EN1317.
One of our most recognisable transitions is the Tranzflex transition. This arrangement connects the Hill & Smith Barriers Vehicle Restraint Systems with the Varley & Gulliver Bridge Parapets. The Tranzflex transition has been used widely across the UK on many major projects including the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the A14 Improvement Scheme.
The Non-Connecting transition is designed to replace the use of full-height anchors. Where a length of barrier is installed adjacent to a redundant structure, that has no load-bearing capacity and cannot be moved or replaced, the Non-Connecting transition is the ideal solution. Anchored adjacent to the redundant structure, this transition is designed to redirect an impacting vehicle away from the end of the hazard.
We have approximately 14 transitions in our portfolio that are all tested to BSI EN1317. They can connect into a variety of barrier types including temporary VRS, concrete barriers, concrete structures, bridge parapets and other steel VRS products.
