Project overview:

A full weekend closure of the A47 on the North Tuddenham to Easton Dualling Project provided a live operational environment for Galliford Try, Hill & Smith
Infrastructure and HW Martin Traffic Management to trial the new Incursion Defender within a working traffic management system.

Deployed on the Longwater westbound entry slip, the system was used to provide safe, physical protection with controlled access into the works, supporting both routine construction traffic and emergency services. As well as trialling a new product, the objective was to test whether physical incursion protection could be introduced into an active, high-use access point without compromising operational efficiency.

The trial demonstrated that controlled vehicle movement and physical incursion protection can operate together in practice. In doing so, it addressed a recognised limitation within temporary traffic management, where visual deterrents are often relied upon but physical prevention is limited.
