Highways England legacy systems installed on the M2

Hill & Smith are one of few manufacturers who still supply the UK Highways England Legacy systems (NPSBS). Hill & Smith are one of the leading UK manufacturers of Highway Vehicle Restraint Systems which includes both NPSBS, Brifen, Flexbeam and the Black Country Range.

Highways England Legacy systems were the first tested restraint systems on the market. All restraint systems are still tested to EN1317, but new schemes only include proprietary systems that are developed in accordance with the latest modifications to this standard.

However the Non-Proprietary systems are replaced like-for-like across the maintenance market and often, a large quantity is required. This was the case for the M2 in the summer of 2020.

Working with our customer, Metor, we supplied up to 5km of NPSBS materials to the M2 between junctions 5 – 7.
