Ringway’s highway division was awarded the contract to install a new roundabout system to improve traffic flow close to Worcester’s historic cathedral. The roundabout being installed following a major archaeological dig in the middle of Worcester’s busy road network.

Ringway chose MASS (Multi Application Safety System) with steel pedestrian barrier to create a safe working environment whilst guiding traffic around the outer perimeter.

The high visibility red and white galvanised steel MASS base units provide roll-on roll-off stability using the weight of the vehicle to stabilise the barrier.

The 1.5m long, 50cm wide units link together using the Pedestrian Guard vertical framework to secure a strong and safe vehicle restraint system.

Ringway site manager Chris Dovey and senior installing foreman Kevin Anderson are in total agreement that the MASS barrier was easy to install, “It’s easily moved as the site develops and provides both a safe and aesthetically pleasing ring fence to the road works within,” comments Kevin. Assembly and dismantling requires minimal time whilst providing maximum safety with minimum disruption to traffic flow.

During the construction phases of the project the barriers were moved to a different position. The Ringway team lay binder course to what was the existing roundabout and then the barriers were moved to put the traffic on a contraflow system using one lane of the dual carriageway. This allowed the workforce total possession of the site to continue with kerbing and drainage.

Tested to current European Standards, the MASS vehicle restraint system will provide Ringway Highways Engineering with a cost effective safety solution for this site and many more in the years to come.
