Airports

Hardstaff Barriers are a leading supplier of fully approved temporary and permanent protection and delineation products for both airside and non-airside for over 25 years.

We are innovators in the aviation sector, resulting in the development of Hardstaff’s unique BlastDefender product that protects the workforce and airport users from blasts exceeding 113 km/h (70 mph) Type E MAX jet blast and integrates easily with their EN1317 tested concrete barriers.

BlastDefender

BlastDefender works by redirecting the jet blast and eliminating dust and debris, preventing damage and injury. The system, which was quickly and easily installed, provided a complete safety solution without the need for repeat maintenance visits or inspections. In turn, this helped to reduce the carbon footprint. The system is designed for easy assembly on site and has been deployed in major airports including Gatwick and Heathrow. The system already comes complete with a highly visible red and white finish.

A full suite of products for the whole airport site is also available in our brochure.

Ports

Utilising high visibility edge protection and delineation products to support port activities, keeping people and property safe is paramount. Ensuring suitable segregation of traffic routes to protect infrastructure and people is a key consideration in Port design. Safe pedestrian and vehicle segregation has been achieved for many ports in the UK by Hardstaff including ABP’s Port of Immingham. It is the UK’s largest port by tonnage, handling around 46 million tonnes of cargo every year.

Thanks to the installation of these barriers, the port has continued to operate its handling of around 46 million tonnes of cargo every year whilst keeping people safe from moving vehicles and heavy-duty plant.

As a trusted supplier of temporary airside barriers and protection products, Hardstaff was appointed by VolkerFitzpatrick to install a BlastDefender fencing system around the construction site to protect the workforce behind it.
BlastDefender works by redirecting the jet blast and eliminating dust and debris, preventing damage and injury.
The highly visible red and white fencing provides protection from blast speeds of up to 75mph.

The BlastDefender panels were attached to Multibloc barriers, a temporary vehicle restraint system (TVRS), without the need for ground anchorage.

As part of the temporary traffic management Laing O’Rourke are using MASS barrier to delineate the works, and to segregate and protect both road users and the workforce. Although the urban traffic management schemes are in low speed environments, the construction durations, nature and extent of the works dictate that a robust barrier system is needed.

MASS barrier offers a flexible balance between conventional cones / unrestrained barrier systems and superior high containment alternatives.
