Perimeter security

Following advice from leading vehicle restraint system (VRS) experts at Hardstaff Barriers, it was decided that a physical barrier would also be used in addition to the traffic signals.

The SentriGate traffic control gate was recommended as the ideal solution, to provide a visual and physical reminder to drivers that they may be approaching a red traffic signal.

As a trusted supplier of temporary airside barriers and protection products, Hardstaff was appointed by VolkerFitzpatrick to install a BlastDefender fencing system around the construction site to protect the workforce behind it.
BlastDefender works by redirecting the jet blast and eliminating dust and debris, preventing damage and injury.
The highly visible red and white fencing provides protection from blast speeds of up to 75mph.

The BlastDefender panels were attached to Multibloc barriers, a temporary vehicle restraint system (TVRS), without the need for ground anchorage.

The Hinkley Point C Park and Ride facilities at Bridgwater, Junction 24 on the M5, include parking for 620 cars and bus parking facilities. It also offers
a freight management facility including parking for up to 80 heavy goods vehicles, a freight checking area, associated parking as well as welfare and security buildings.

Lucy Holt, Project Manager – Associated Developments of EDF Energy, working with principal contractor Costain, planned and developed the site plan to enable safe traffic management around the site.

Having previously used Hardstaff Multibloc TVCBs with Unifence to protect building assets on the site, Multibloc TVCBs also proved ideal to separate bus and delivery traffic including HGVs upon entry. With the addition of more Unifence to protect goods and vehicles whilst held on site, as part of the traffic flow systems through Bridgwater towards the works areas within Hinkley Point C.
